Breast Reduction Procedure

A breast reduction is a procedure in which a breast surgeon removes excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin to reduce your breast size. If you have disproportionately large breasts, you know the consequences go beyond cosmetic concerns. Not only is it a struggle to find shirts that fit or bras that provide adequate support, but you may also experience back pain and discomfort during certain physical activities.

At Kreitzberg Plastic Surgery, we understand there are various reasons someone might choose to have breast reduction surgery. We support your reasons, whatever they may be. If you are unhappy with the size of your chest, consider undergoing a breast reduction in Tulsa.

The Medical Benefits Of Breast Reduction Surgery

If you have large breasts, you may experience pain and discomfort in your back, neck, or shoulders due to the weight of your chest. You might also experience surface pain from bra straps digging into your shoulders. Additionally, the weight of your breasts could cause your posture to suffer.

In some cases, patients have lost sensation throughout the breast or nipples. Some have even developed ulcers or skin irritation under their breast folds. Breast reduction surgery can help improve many of these potentially debilitating symptoms.

Reduction Mammoplasty Procedure

Reduction mammoplasty, or breast reduction surgery, is performed under general anesthesia at our outpatient surgical center in Tulsa. With general anesthesia, you will be asleep during the entire procedure. After we administer the anesthesia, Dr. Kreitzberg will make a surgical incision around the nipple and on the breast. The incisions are discreet and well hidden under a bra.

After making the incisions, Dr. Kreitzberg removes excess tissue and recontours the breast. In cases where you need a lift, the nipple-areolar complex may be repositioned higher up on the breast. The results of the procedure are immediate and will improve as the scars fade and swelling decreases.

Recovering From Breast Reduction

Dr. Kreitzberg performs drainless breast reductions. After surgery, you will have bandages on the incisions and will be provided a compression bra to reduce swelling and support your breasts during the healing process. We generally suggest patients wear compression garments for approximately six weeks after breast reduction surgery. However, some patients wear them for less time.

After the procedure, we will go over all necessary care, provide medications to reduce pain, and schedule follow-up appointments. The doctor will also examine the breasts to ensure proper healing. Most patients have moderate discomfort for 2-3 days after surgery and return to their normal activities without restrictions within six weeks.
