Arm Lift Procedures

Many people experience a change in the appearance of their arms due to changes in weight and a decrease in skin elasticity as they age, especially on their upper arms. This is due to your body’s natural decline in collagen production. If you are unhappy with the loose skin on your arms or stubborn fat, there are steps you can take to address it. While exercising is an excellent way to improve muscle tone, surgical intervention is the best option for improving sagging skin.

At Kreitzberg Plastic Surgery, we offer safe and effective body sculpting procedures to help you achieve your desired figure. An arm lift with liposuction or arm liposuction alone in Tulsa could eliminate your sagging skin and/or stubborn fat to reveal the contours of your muscles. Motivations For Arm Surgery

If exercise and changes in diet have not been effective in reducing excess body fat and sagging skin on your upper arms, you might consider getting an arm lift. Exercise can improve muscle tone, but your results may not be noticeable underneath stubborn fat and skin rolls.

You might also benefit from arm surgery if you have recently lost a significant amount of weight. This procedure can be helpful if your skin does not tighten on its own after the weight loss. If you are interested in arm lift surgery, Dr. Kreitzberg can help you understand how you could benefit from the procedure.

How Does Arm Lift Procedure Work?

During the arm lift procedure, general anesthesia is given and Dr. Kreitzberg makes incisions along your upper arm. Depending on the laxity and placement of the targeted skin, these incisions may run along the back or inside of your upper arm from your underarms to your elbows.

Dr. Kreitzberg then uses liposuction techniques to liquefy and vacuum excess fat cells from your upper arms to reveal the contours of your muscles. Next, he trims your excess skin while tightening and reshaping the underlying tissues to improve arm muscle support. The final step is repositioning and suturing your remaining skin over newly enhanced muscle contours.

For those with tighter skin, yet are troubled with stubborn fat, small incisions can be made on the arm for liposuction sculpting. Dr. Kreitzberg will insert cannulas through small incisions to remove unwanted fat on the arm. This will lead to enhanced contour and definition of the arms muscles.

Expectations After Surgery

Immediately after arm lift surgery or liposuction, your upper arms will be wrapped in bandages from your hands to shoulders. This reduces the likelihood of excess swelling, blood, or other fluids accumulating in your arms.

In the first three or four weeks of recovery, it is essential after an arm lift to avoid lifting your arms above shoulder level, as this will strain your incisions and skin. Further, physical activities that stretch the skin and incisions should be avoided for at least eight weeks after surgery. Recovery after liposuction alone is quicker and allows for quicker mobility of the arms.

Typically, patients are able to return to light-impact activities, such as work, within one to two weeks and high-impact activities after four weeks. Patients may experience moderate swelling, bruising, redness, pain, and scarring on the upper arms at incision sites during recovery.

Potential Results

After surgery, your arms could look significantly more toned and defined due to tighter, smoother skin. Additionally, the improved support of your underlying muscle tissues further improves definition in your upper arm. So long as you maintain a stable weight, these results could last for years after the operation. However, you may still experience natural declines in skin firmness.
