Benefits Of Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is designed to increase the size and improve the shape of the breasts. Whether you desire larger breasts, more symmetry, or a natural-looking enhancement, breast augmentation provides numerous benefits:
  • Restore Volume Post-Pregnancy: Many women experience a loss of breast volume after pregnancy or breastfeeding. Breast implants can restore a fuller, more youthful appearance.
  • Address Asymmetry: If your breasts are uneven in size, augmentation can create more balanced proportions.
  • Enhance Body Proportions: Breast augmentation can help you achieve a more proportionate body by increasing breast size to complement your overall figure.
  • Increase Self-Confidence: Enhancing the appearance of your breasts can significantly boost your self-esteem and improve body image.
At Kreitzberg Plastic Surgery, we prioritize your goals and work closely with you to ensure the procedure enhances your appearance and aligns with your expectations.

Incision Location and Benefits of Inframammary Fold Incision

One of the most important considerations during breast augmentation is the incision site. Dr. Kreitzberg offers several incision options, but the inframammary fold incision (underneath the breast) is often preferred for its many benefits:

  • Less Visible Scarring: The inframammary fold incision is discreet and placed along the natural fold of the breast, making it nearly invisible when healed.
  • Better Implant Positioning: This incision allows for more precise placement of the implant, resulting in better symmetry and a natural appearance.
  • Versatility: The inframammary fold incision is suitable for both saline and silicone implants, as well as gummy bear implants, ensuring flexibility based on your preferences.

Other potential incision sites include the periareolar incision (around the nipple) and transaxillary incision (under the arm). Dr. Kreitzberg will work with you to determine the best approach based on your anatomy and aesthetic goals.

Implant Position: Above or Below the Muscle

Another key decision during breast augmentation is the position of the implant. There are three primary options for implant placement:

  1. Subglandular (Above the Muscle): The implant is placed above the chest muscle and under the breast tissue. This placement may be ideal for women with sufficient natural breast tissue to cover the implant.  If the implant is placed above the muscle, Dr Kreitzberg will place the implant in a subfascial position to allow for better implant support and better scar tissue formation around the implant.
  2. Submuscular (Below the Muscle): The implant is placed under the chest muscle. This placement can provide more natural-looking results, especially for women with little natural breast tissue. It also may help reduce the risk of complications, like capsular contracture.  Dr Kreitzberg will place the implant under the muscle with a dual plane.  This technique combines the benefits of both subglandular and submuscular placement, where the upper part of the implant is placed below the muscle, and the lower part is placed above the muscle, but under the fascia of the muscle.  Dual plane placement provides a natural contour, reduces the appearance of the implant edges, and offers support from the muscle for a more youthful and lifted result.

Each option has its benefits, and Dr. Kreitzberg will discuss the best approach for your body type and desired look during your consultation.

I had 5 breast augmentation consultations with different surgeons in the Tulsa area. I chose Dr. Kreitzberg because he is patient, attentive, and very thorough.

Dr. Kreitzberg made me feel so comfortable throughout the entire process. On surgery day, he checked on me before and after, you could tell he genuinely cared. He went above and beyond to give me the best results.

I had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend him to friends and family.

Personalized Implant Sizing and Selection

Choosing the right breast implant is a crucial part of the breast augmentation process. During your consultation, Dr. Kreitzberg will assess your body type, skin elasticity, and aesthetic goals to determine the best implant size, shape, and material for you. The goal is to achieve a natural-looking enhancement that complements your figure.

Types of Breast Implants
There are two primary types of breast implants: saline and silicone, each with unique benefits. Here’s an overview of both:

  • Saline Implants: These implants are filled with sterile salt water after they are inserted into the breast. Saline implants allow for a smaller incision and can be adjusted after placement if necessary. However, some patients prefer silicone due to the more natural feel.
  • Silicone Implants: These pre-filled implants are made with a silicone gel that mimics the feel of natural breast tissue. Gummy bear implants, a type of silicone implant, are especially popular for their natural feel and shape. The gel inside is cohesive, meaning it holds its shape even if the implant shell were to rupture, making them a safe and aesthetically pleasing option.

Gummy Bear Implants are highly regarded for their ability to offer a firm yet natural feel, ideal for women seeking a more youthful, fuller breast shape. They are also known for their durability and ability to hold their shape over time, making them an excellent choice for those looking for a long-lasting enhancement.

Recovery After Breast Augmentation

While every patient heals differently, the typical recovery timeline for breast augmentation is as follows:

  • First Few Days: Rest and minimal movement are essential. Expect some bruising, swelling, and discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed medication.
  • First Week: Most patients can return to light activities and work after 5-7 days, though it’s important to avoid lifting heavy objects or engaging in strenuous physical activity.
  • 2-3 Weeks: You may be able to resume more normal activities, but still avoid exercise that could strain the chest muscles.  The implants will feel high and tight.
  • 4-6 Weeks: After the initial recovery period, patients can gradually return to more intense activities like exercise and moderate weight lifting. The implants will begin to feel softer and begin to settle.
  • Final Results: While your implants will settle and your incisions will heal over time, it can take several months (3-6 months) for the final shape and appearance to fully emerge.

During this period, you will need to wear a special supportive bra to help the healing process and maintain the position of your implants
